Let large language models mobilize language properly.

Linger builds a more careful way to return to the language that already shapes a life: the words exchanged with the people who matter.

Our vision

Language is not simply content. It is how people make promises, repair misunderstandings, keep family history, and recognize one another over time.

Large language models can produce fluent words. Their real usefulness begins when language remains attached to the relationships, chronology, and lived situations that gave those words meaning.

Today, much of the language that matters most is stranded in private archives: messages, notes, recordings, and fragments that grow more numerous while becoming harder to revisit. These records are not raw material to be mined. They are part of a person's life.

Linger is building tools that help people examine this language with care. The aim is not to manufacture a substitute for anyone. It is to make the context people already own more legible, more continuous, and more useful to the people it belongs to.

Our story

We began with a simple premise: intelligence is only useful when it respects the human context that makes language matter.

By 2025, general-purpose language models had moved from demonstrations into the ordinary texture of work, learning, and private life. They could generate sentences at extraordinary speed. Yet the language most consequential to people - the words exchanged with family, friends, partners, and colleagues - was still treated as an undifferentiated archive.

The founding team began with a narrower question: could a language model help someone understand the record of a relationship without claiming to replace the person in it? The answer required more than eloquence. It required provenance, restraint, and a way for people to remain in control of what is interpreted.

Linger grew from that question. We are creating a place to revisit personal language with enough structure to find patterns, enough evidence to examine them, and enough care to leave room for uncertainty.

What guides us

The meaning of a personal record cannot be separated from the people whose lives it describes. These commitments shape how we design the work.

Context belongs to its people
Personal language should help its owners understand their lives. It should not become an asset detached from the relationships that created it.
Evidence before interpretation
Useful reflections should remain connected to the language and circumstances that support them, with room to inspect, question, and disagree.
Agency before imitation
A system can help someone revisit a relationship without performing as the person within it. The user's judgment must remain central.
Care must be legible
People should be able to understand what a tool is doing with their language, what it can and cannot infer, and where its limits begin.

What we are building

A user-directed home for the language that is otherwise scattered across time, devices, and applications - built to support reflection rather than extract attention.

Persona reports
Surface a grounded picture of communication style and relational rhythm, with the source material available for context.
Conversation review
Return to the moments, patterns, and changes that a long record makes difficult to see all at once.
Memoir
Capture the stories that should not depend on a single device, a single memory, or a single moment of recall.

Useful intelligence should make people more able to remember, question, and decide.

That is the standard we are working toward: technology that serves human continuity without asking people to surrender the context that makes them themselves.
